John Stewart first rose to prominence as a member of The Cumberland Three who released a pair of acclaimed concept albums about the American Civil War. He then joined The Kingston Trio and led them through the volatile 1960's before he was forced to start writing songs for outside acts. This he did in 1967 when his "Daydream Believer" became an international his for The Monkees. He was a member of the post John Sebastian Lovin' Spoonful and almost formed a duo with John Denver before delivering the country-psych oddity Signals Through The Glass in 1968 with his wife Buffy Ford. He then recorded this, his debut album proper, in Nashville with Beach Boys mentor Nick Venet at the controls and the players who cut Dylan's Nashville Skyline, Vince Martin's If The Jasmine Don't Cut You...The Bay Breeze Will and Bergen White's For Women Only.
