Formed in 1982, Northampton's finest THE JAZZ BUTCHER (and later CONSPIRACY) were a prime example of British rock eccentricity. Predominately a vehicle for the idiosyncratic, melodic songwriting talents of Pat Fish, their lineup included the likes of Rolo McGinty and Alice Thompson (later both of the Woodentops) and ex-Bauhaus bassist David J. THE JAZZ BUTCHER underwent several changes in the early years. However, the one constant member was lead guitarist Max Eider, who's light jazz/blues feel added an eloquence to some of the more raw compositions. Raw it may have been, but signed by Creation in 1988, Alan McGee described Pat Fish as the "one of the most brilliant incisive pop writers that Britain has produced since the glory days of Ray Davies and Pete Townsend...a truly great songwriter". Last year, after a 5-year break, the band brought us a new studio album "Rotten Soul", (recorded with a line-up including the irreplaceable Messrs. Fish and Eider) and the reissue of the seminal MAX EIDER album "The Best Kisser In The World". This year Vinyl Japan and the BUTCHER present 'Cake City' a compilation of their finest moments, and reissues of their classic Glass albums 'A Scandal In Bohemia' and 'Distressed Gentlefolk', as well as a holy anticipated new studio album from MAX EIDER. Backed by a 20 date tour of the US, UK and Europe, THE BUTCHER absolutely not to be missed!
