This erratic but largely satisfying debut album unveiled a band capable of invigorating fusions of Middle Eastern music with touches of psychedelic and harmony pop, combining instruments such as the dulcimer, Dobro, mandolin, sax, and banjo in ways that had rarely been heard in either folk or rock. The end result was actually fairly psychedelic, and this record has some of their most worthy efforts, including "Egyptian Garden," "Please," and the spooky "Oh Death." — Richie Unterberger, AMG
