The brother/sister pop group Holiday Flyer has split in two. The California Oranges are brother John Conley (Holiday Flyer), Verna Brock (Holiday Flyer, The Sinking Ships), and the twins Matt & Ross Levine (Sinking Ships, The Tank). Here, John and Verna trade harmonies like a power-pop John Doe & Xene. The Sinking Ships are sister Katie Conley-Haley with the very same backing band and brother John on guitar. Katie's classic, girl/guitar pop record came out in November '02. Both siblings' songs are framed now by much heavier guitars and a stronger rhythm section but melody and harmonies still rule. Think Superchunk, The Clash, Big Star. Our favorite Sacramentans have a special place in indiepop history and our hearts. Still pure pop but now with raw power.
