Intelligent and slightly forlorn 21st-century keyboard-driven pop songwriting at it's finest. The Prom are a young 3-piece indie pop outfit that has been the talk of Seattle since their first show one short year ago. Based on a tight drums-bass-piano backbone augmented with assorted analog keyboards, they recall indie favorites Grandaddy or Black Heart Procession filtered through a pronounced McCartneyesque pop sensibility. This three-song single, recorded by Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla, follows up the band's previous full-length (In This Way They Found Me, PF002) on Portland, OR's Panther Fact Records, with whom barsuk is proud to be co-releasing this new CD. The Prom have quickly became a favorite in the Pacific Northwest and have been invited to share the stage with such indie luminaries as Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes, Pedro the Lion, and Juno, among others. Energetic, engaging live performances coupled with heavy regional radio support of their first full-length have generated an enthusiastic following from both peers and fans alike. The band is embarking on a west coast tour this summer, including shows with Rainer Maria and Juno, the latter of whom featured Prom bassist Dave Broecker on their recent European tour. A full national tour with Death Cab For Cutie is scheduled this fall, at which time a new full-length CD/LP is due on Barsuk and Panther Fact.
