The Beat Konducta series from Madlib reaches an emotional crux point with vol.5, 'lib's tribute to his fallen comrade and soul(beat) mate J Dilla. In much the same style as Dilla's seminal 'Donuts' LP, and previous installments of the Beat Konducta series the tracks are all micro versions, a fraction the length of your average beat, allowing him to sketch out dozens of minature ideas peppered with a plethora of samples over the two sides. This meta track style allows us to gain a glimpse of the kaleidoscopic rhythm refractions and melodic echoes bouncing around Madlib's psyched mind and really bears a melancholy sense of longing and love for his bud. This is a very special plate for Madlib and it's clearly no easy cash in on his friends name, but a heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest beat masters ever. Massively Recommended!
