Magic Whispers

Carousels and Music Boxes CD

A world without The Magic Whispers? It's just too horrible to comprehend. Ana Laan (Rita Calypso) and Natalia Farrán (Bathing Beauty) are indeed The Magic Whispers and they return with 17 sublime songs: a perfect combination of acoustic and electric guitars and gorgeous vocal harmonies with blissful pop melodies. Their private rooms and secret chambers were divulged at Yin yang (2003), and now there is a second chance to penetrate their soul through Carousels and music boxes, an amazing collection of superb pop music. Song for song, this record is one of the most satisfying Siesta discs in the last five years thanks to the sophomore momentum. With their infallible knack for pop melodies, and the winsome charm of their voices, they are on the cusp of naivety and sophistication. The Magic Whispers are a little ray of sunshine in our otherwise barren lives. After their acclaimed debut album, The Magic Whispers did not want to rest on its laurels and were anxious to bring another platter of peerless musical treasures. Only the deaf could resist the exquisite tunes, fertile romanticism and the ingenious arrangements combined with those voices to create something remarkably fresh and pure. Their appeal should catapul them to microfame. The Magic Whispers are a great group that never goes out of style. This record will solidify themselves as one of the best girl groups (Strawberry Switchblade, Ephemera, Pipettes, Siddeleys, Girls at our best, Carousel, Popinjays, Marine Girls, The Would-be-goods, Sambassadeur, Dolly Mixture...). They resemble the traditional pop of the 1960s and 1980s added a modern twist. There are coquettish songs that are refined with playful intonations and light instrumentation, romantic anthems to love, and different flirts that are meant to bring joy, light and inspiration to the pop scene of the present days. The selection of songs was undertaken by mastermind Mateo Guiscafré who together with Ramón Leal have serviced a masterfully produced, artful soft-pop gem. Unfortunately this will be the last ever Leal & Guiscafré co-production. Guille Milkyway (La Casa Azul) have added his genius in the songwriting process of 4 sugary link songs to maximise the unique concept of the record (carousel and music boxes). An iconic album cover is a great thing and the inhouse graphic designer Cynthia was obviously the best option to excel. Her trademark is famous beyond the seven seas. Every generation, of course, has its invigorating progenitors of taste. For nerds here is a list of the original songs and legendary and obscure bands behind them: Hot rain- Someone Else's Love; My Guru Says- Sally and John; Po!-Appleseed Alley; Fantastic something-Drawing Rooms ; The Hit Parade-Groovy Heart Attack; The Impossibles-Meet Me Again; Carole King para The Shirelles- Will You Love Me Tomorrow?; Jacques Brel/ BMX Bandits-Carousel; Popinjays- Helicopter People; Coloring book- Time To Grow; Malcolm Eden/Herzfeld- Two Mothers; Mosquitos- Blue Heart ;Klaus Cornfield/ Throw that beat in the garbage can- Like Christmas. This album is a nostalgic return to the innocent days of melody based pop music. It's pure fun, well orchestrated, well delivered, harmonised perfectly, and manufactured to within an inch of its life. The instrumentation (assumedly completed by Ramón Leal) is spot-on, and the songs are all pretty appealing and straightforward. All life's best things elicit a response, either a gasp of delight, or simply a wide-eyed stare. The Magic Whispers are somehow overachievers and they do a little miracle being endlessly delicate without falling into cutesy. Hope this music means something to you. We all need your support!
