Let's Get Static CD

Track and Field
'Let's get static' is the debut lp from the Projects, combining heartstoppingly catchy dance tunes with social commentary. Favouring electric pop with an undeniably human heartbeat, this will make you shake to the repetitive structures of everyday life. Forget rock n' roll – this is super pop for the elegantly malcontent youth of the city. The Projects formed in 2001 after previous pop outings in the likes of miss mend and Stereolab. Their debut single, "entertainment" (released the following year but also featured on this lp) received great praise from everyone who heard it. Nme called it, "a fantastic blend of steamrolling krautrock bass, post-punk yelping, with angel-larynxed interludes". Sonic youth collaborator, dan graham, even provided the image for the sleeve. Recorded in London over the past 12 months, you couldn't imagine the white noise of distorted guitars and crystal clear choruses in 'today / yesterday', or the frantic mayhem of 'runner up' evolving anywhere else. The Projects follow the map drawn up by the Gang of four, translating sociological analysis into pop poetics verging on the non-sensical. The band supported Broadcast on their UK tour in december 2003, and have also taken to the stage alongside the Fiery furnaces, Movietone, Rogers sisters, Klang and Quickspace. As audiences up and down the land found out, this is music to dance to... in high heels and with the skinniest of ties, but with absolutely no underwear.
