SUNSHINE LOFT is the debut record from KEITH JOHN ADAMS, songwriter and music maker from the United Kingdom, and former frontman for the mid-90's experimental Brit-pop group Zuno Men. Sunshine Loft was recorded live to minidisc in a loft, utilizing a single stereo microphone. There were no overdubs, no multitracking, and not even any mixing invovled in the creation of this record. In a way, it's an experiment in purity. Sunshine Loft is a varied little album - from the Beatles-esque "Sunshine" and the Beefheartian "Drift", to the accordion wash of "Flood". Keith clearly loves pop music, and every track is a powerful mix of song, melody and creativity. It's a very English sounding record. Influences are less important to Keith than the strength of the material, but several names have been dropped in reference to his sound, including the Kinks, Hank Williams, Syd Barrett, XTC, Robyn Hitchcock, the Violent Femmes, Beck, the Lucksmiths, Badly Drawn Boy, and Vic Chesnutt. In large part, though, Sunshine Loft sounds like what early country musicians such as Jimmie Rodgers and Bob Wills could have
sounded like if they took cues from the British music hall tradition instead of African-American blues.
