M83-Hurry Up, We're Dreaming 2xCD (Mute-$20.99)
Three years in the making, this sixth album from M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) is one of Autumn 2011's most highly anticipated releases. Grandiose in scale, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is inspired by Smashing Pumpkin's revered double disc Melancholy & The Infinite Sadness.
Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen and including contributions from Brad Laner (Medicine) on guitar, Saturdays=Youth vocalist Morgan Kibby, and guest vocalist Zola Jesus, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming (featuring first single "Midnight City"), is a double-album journey that takes us to the horizon and introduces us to new landscapes. About awakening, craving, and conquering, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming pushes into new vocal territory for M83. Here we see Anthony Gonzalez test out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream.
Soaring and scraping up against the sky while sharing each uncharted frontier with new collaborators is what M83 does best.

** GRAMOPHONE / PHONOGRAPH / ANALOG SOUND STORAGE MEDIA **

ALLO DARLIN'-s/t LP (Fortuna Pop-$19.99)
For fans of: the Magnetic Fields, Camera Obscura, Hefner, Kimya Dawson, Jens Lekman, The Lucksmiths, The Wave Pictures. Allo Darlin' is the music of Australian-born, London-based songwriter Elizabeth Morris, and runs the spectrum from joyous, breezy, punky, jump-around pop with fabulous harmonies to sparse ukulele and steel guitar heartbreakers.

BATTLES-Gloss Drop 2xLP (Warp-$20.99)
Gatefold vinyl with poster. "It is true that Gloss Drop is a bewitching, entrancing album that defies both categorization and easy analysis. Just as Mirrored was a massive leap on from the early EPs that first got them noticed, this is truly another seismic shift, propelling them once more into uncharted territory. It is a sheer sense of fun, unpredictability and inventiveness that sets Battles apart from every other contemporary group. Drummer John Stanier sums this up succinctly: 'I don't think challenging, new music has to be super serious all the time. That's really boring to me and pushing boundaries should not be boring.' While other acts are content to deal in revivalism or stasis, Battles are still looking for far-off boundaries to study and then demolish, searching for new and exotic styles to mesh together. Stanier concludes: 'When we're writing songs, no one in this group has ever said 'Wait, we've gone too far. This isn't a Battles song.' Because what is a Battles
song? We don't know. All I know is that there are no parameters and no boundaries. That is the whole point and has been since day one.'" Includes poster. Featuring guest appearances by: Matias Aguayo, Gary Numan, Kazu Makino and Yamantaka Eye.

JORGE BEN-Forca Bruta 180g LP (4 Men With Beards-$17.99)
"Originally released in 1970, Fôrça Bruta is an absolute classic from one of Brazil's most consistently great artists. Despite being embraced by the tropicalia movement (with Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa both covering his songs) there are no psychedelic meanderings to be found within these grooves -- this set is pure samba-soul. Jorge Ben is backed here by the innovative Trio Mocotó who never overplay and allow his soulful vocal delivery and samba guitar to be the centerpieces." 180 gram vinyl.

DON CHERRY-Complete Communion LP (Blue Note-$9.99)
Originally released in 1965, Don Cherry's first album for Blue Note featured Leandro "Gato" Barbieri (tenor sax), Henry Grimes (bass) and Edward Blackwell (drums). "...all the musicians free-associated off of each theme, engaging in intense, abstract dialogues before moving on to the next." --All Music Guide

JOHN COLTRANE-Giant Steps 45rpm 2x180gLP Box (Atlantic-$54.99)
A landmark, genre-defining album, Giant Steps has been hailed as John Coltrane's finest work. Coltrane and his bandmates create compelling, frenzied, and beautiful sonic landscapes which helped revolutionize jazz. Released in January 1960, Giant Steps was John's first album devoted entirely to his own compositions and confirmed his command of tenor saxophone as well as his emerging skill as a composer. This deluxe, limited edition 2LP comes packaged in a numbered, collectible slipcase which is a visual replica of the original tape box.

ROSCOE HOLCOMB-The High Lonesome Sound LP (Smithsonian Folkways-$16.99)
"Originally released in 1965, this is Holcomb's first full album for Folkways. The man for whom the term The High Lonesome Sound was coined certainly shows why here. This is Appalachian folk music, both beautiful and harsh, harrowing and tender. Essential recordings from this Kentucky native lovingly reissued in a perfect replica of the original Folkways jacket and including a reproduction of the original information booklet."

DANIEL JOHNSTON-Yip Jump Music LP (High Wire-$14.99)
Legendary original 1983 Stress Records cassette from Austin outsider singer/songwriter who's had work covered by and/or influenced NIRVANA, YO LA TENGO, tons of others. Incl. his hits "Chord Organ Blues," "The Beatles," "Speeding Motorcycle," "Sorry Entertainer," "Rocket Ship" & "Casper the Friendly Ghost".

THE LA'S-s/t 180g LP (Plain-$16.99)
Originally released in 1990 on the Go! Discs label, The La's self-titled debut is a tasty nugget of classic British pop (Kinks, Small Faces) matched with the post-punk jangle of groups like the Smiths and XTC. Predating the second British invasion by a number of years, this, the sole album by the La's features the classic "There She Goes" along with eleven other slices of pop goodness. Back in print on vinyl for the first time since its original release.

LOW-I Could Live in Hope 180g LP (Plain-$20.99)
"Originally released (only on CD) by Vernon Yard Recordings in 1994, I Could Live In Hope is the debut release from Minnesota's slo-core pioneers. Produced by the legendary Kramer, Low's first recordings show a band emerging fully formed with a sound that they carry on to this day. On vinyl for the very first time." On 180 gram vinyl.

LOW-Long Division 180g LP (Plain-$16.99)
LOWER PRICE!! 2nd album originally released on Virgin Records' Vernon Yard imprint in 1995. These Minnesota slowcore legends established themselves as critical darlings w/ their striking vocal harmonies, slow tempos & minimalist song structures.

MAZZY STAR-Among My Swan 180g LP (Plain-$16.99)
"Mazzy Star's third and final album, originally released in 1996, is a perfect finale to the band's career, another fine work of hushed folk-rock and gentle psychedelia. The atmospheric guitar of David Roback and the hauntingly gorgeous vocals of Hope Sandoval are complimented here with help from William Reed of The Jesus & Mary Chain among others." 180 gram vinyl housed in a full-color printed inner sleeve.

NEW ORDER-Movement 180g LP (Rhino-$17.99)
MOVEMENT, their 1981 debut, finds the group exploring the future after Joy Division with darkly melodic stand-outs including "Truth," "Denial" and "Dreams Never End." This is the first step in the transition from the tragically ended Joy Division into New Order, and the first glimpse of the band that would redefine dance and rock music.

NEW ORDER-Power Corruption & Lies 180g LP (Rhino-$17.99)
New Order came into its own on POWER, CORRUPTION & LIES ('83), a breakthrough disc that Rolling Stonecalled, "a remarkable declaration of independence." Features the signature tracks "Age Of Consent," "Blue Monday," and "Your Silent Face." Their second album moved them past the cathartic debut that still dealt with finding their post-Joy Division identitiy. Coming into their own as an exciting hybrid of dance and rock, this 1983 classic solidified their sound.

PULP-This is Hardcore 180g 2xLP (Plain-$24.99)
Super deluxe 180gm 2LP vinyl in gatefold sleeve! Originally released in 1998, this was at once the artistic pinnacle of 90s Brit-pop, & the genre's comedown record, marking the end of an era w/ its ruminations on growing old (JARVIS COCKER wrote & recorded the album at the age of 33, which may also explain the album's Jesus fixation), fearful, & bitter. Drawing influence from Bowie & Roxy Music, rather than the Stones & Beatles, here he crafted one of the darkest yet anthemic albums of all time. An absolute masterpiece .

ELLIOTT SMITH-Roman Candle 180g LP (Kill Rock Stars-$16.99)
Kill Rock Stars is proud to re-issue Roman Candle, Elliott Smith's first solo album, originally released on Portland's Cavity Search Records in 1994. Roman Candle is now re-mastered for the re-release by Roger Seibel (SAE) and Larry Crane, editor of Tape Op Magazine and archivist for Elliott's family. Originally released in very limited LP quantity, this is the first time that Roman Candle is widely available on both standard and 180 gram vinyl.
'Elliott Smith began his career like most aspiring musicians in the Northwestern states: putting in the requisite hours in a grunge band. Being a team player, however, is not Smith's forte. After those buzzy shows in the bars of Portland, OR, he would retreat backstage with his acoustic guitar and whisper his own quiet songs to himself. This album is his first attempt to record those songs, and they capture that feeling perfectly: a loner retreating from the noisy tension of life with others, finding solace in musical solitude. Roman Candle was, in fact, recorded in solitude on a four-track in a basement. Smith played all the instruments himself. He has said that he's always surprised when people call his songs "sad," because playing them always made him happy. You can hear that reclusive joy in the light bounce of the melodies and hushed harmonies (which recall Simon & Garfunkel). But his lyrics are haunted by the downbeat, drug-addled life from which he was retreating. For
all their cryptic cleverness, there is a restless unhappiness in his fragmented stories of alienated urbanites. After that description, a reference to the definitive folk loner, Nick Drake, is inevitable. Smith's whispery vocals and able fingerpicking deserve the comparison. The highlight of Roman Candle is the title track. The quietly driving acoustic guitars and threatening bass create a disturbing portrait of a human time bomb, barely containing a seething and simmering undercurrent of bitterness. The rest of the album, by comparison, is pure sunlight.' - All Music Guide

ELLIOTT SMITH-From A Basement On a Hill 180g 2xLP (Kill Rock Stars-$17.99)
Elliott Smith has been a patron saint of the indie scene since his days helming Portland heroes Heatmiser. As a solo artist, Smith led a revolution of home four-trackers, from Beck to Cat Power, out of the bedroom and into the studio, where Smith's fondness for Beatlesque melody led to some of the most beautifully orchestrated pop of the last decade. From a Basement on the Hill is Smith's final recording and finds Smith returning to an edgier, guitar-driven sound, alongside his trademark heart-rending balladry. From a Basement on the Hill was originally released on October 19, 2004 on ANTI- Records and is now proudly re-issued by Kill Rock Stars - now home of all of Elliott's indie releases. Elliott had been working on the record at the time of his death. Elliott's family hired producer Rob Schanpf (Either/Or, XO, Figure 8) and Joanna Bolme to mix and produce the album. The LP is available again on both standard and 180 gram vinyl.

SPACEMEN 3-Perfect Prescription 180g LP (Fire-$17.99)
This is the album on which they perfected their woozy, psychedelic drone-pop, moving beyond mere tribute to their influences into a world all their own. A concept record about a drug trip, from the euphoric high of album opener "Take Me To The Other Side," to the drowsy, disturbed finish of "Call The Doctor," this is, arguably, the band's finest moment & the album that best represents the creative collaboration of main members SONIC BOOM & JASON PIERCE

SPACEMEN 3-Walkin' With Jesus 180g 12" (Fire-$14.99)
First 12-inch single for Glass Records released in 1986. Contains the early version of "Walkin' With Jesus (Sound Of Confusion)", the full 17-minute monster rampage through the 13th Floor Elevators' "Rollercoaster" & the original "Feel So Good"

SPACEMEN 3-Transparent Radiation EP 180g 12" (Fire-$14.99)
"Second 12" single for Glass Records released in 1987. Contains 'Transparent Radiation', the complete and original version of 'Ecstasy Symphony', 'Transparent Radiation (Flashback)', the unedited version of 'Things'll Never Be The Same' and the 10-minute lengthy remake of the MC5's 'Starship'."

SPACEMEN 3-Take Me to the Other Side 180g 12" (Fire-$14.99)
"Third 12" single for Glass Records released in 1988. Contains 'Take Me To The Other Side' along with The Perfect Prescription out-take unfinished instrumental (late nite homage to Stax Records' heyday) 'Soul 1' and 'That's Just Fine'."

SPIRITUALIZED-Pure Phase 2xLP (Plain-$22.99)
2nd album, from 1995. A more symphonic sound as well as a dreamy rock grandeur. Think Brian Wilson & La Monte Young recording together. More than just psychedelic, it's celestial

TELEVISION PERSONALITIES-And Don't The Kids Just Love It 180g LP (Fire-$16.99)
"The first full-length release from the UK's Television Personalities was originally released in 1981. And Don't The Kids Just Love It is lo-fi, minimalist, and quirky pop, post-punk, psychedelia, and folk from one of the era's most idiosyncratic songwriters. Featuring such classic tracks as 'I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives' and 'A Picture of Dorian Gray,' this is one of the greatest and strangest debut records ever."

TELEVISION PERSONALITIES-Mummy You're Not Watching Me LP (Fire-$16.99)
"The second full length from Television Personalities, also released in 1981, is more psychedelic than the first, but still with plenty of dry and acerbic wit. Featuring the classic title track and the acid rock drone of 'David Hockney's Diaries,' a style and sound that Daniel Treacy would explore further on subsequent records. Eccentric post-punk and pop from one the UK's most original bands."

TYCHO-Dive 2xLP (Ghostly International-$19.99)
Scott Hansen, better known as TYCHO & as graphic artist ISO50, spent nearly a decade since his last effort before dropping "Dive" on an unsuspecting public. It pays tribute to Tycho's prismatic past but spends most of it's time pointing to the project"s not-too-distant future. All versions come in slightly different variations of art!

WEEN-God Ween Satan 180g 2xLP (Plain-$20.99)
"Originally released on Twin/Tone in 1990, God Ween Satan was the first album from the eclectic and eccentric duo of Dean and Gene Ween. Twenty-six songs covering nearly as many genres: metal, rock, soul, folk, pop, experimental, and more are covered all with the brilliant mix of humor and pop prowess that only Ween have been able to achieve."

ZOMBIES-Odyssey and Oracle LP (Big Beat - $22.99)
'Odessey and Oracle was one of the flukiest (and best) albums of the 1960s, and one of the most enduring long-players to come out of the entire British psychedelic boom, mixing trippy melodies, ornate choruses, and lush Mellotron sounds with a solid hard rock base. But it was overlooked completely in England and barely got out in America (with a big push by Al Kooper, who was then a Columbia Records producer); and it was neglected in the U.S. until the single "Time of the Season," culled from the album, topped the charts nearly two years after it was recorded, by which time the group was long disbanded. Ironically, at the time of its recording in the summer of 1967, permanency was not much on the minds of the band members. Odessey and Oracle was intended as a final statement, a bold last hurrah, having worked hard for three years only to see the quality of their gigs decline as the hits stopped coming. The results are consistently pleasing, surprising, and challenging: "Hung
Up on a Dream" and "Changes" are some of the most powerful psychedelic pop/rock ever heard out of England, with a solid rhythm section, a hot Mellotron sound, and chiming, hard guitar, as well as highly melodic piano. "Changes" also benefits from radiant singing. "This Will Be Our Year" makes use of trumpets (one of the very few instances of real overdubbing) in a manner reminiscent of "Penny Lane"; and then there's "Time of the Season," the most well-known song in their output and a white soul classic. Not all of the album is that inspired, but it's all consistently interesting and very good listening, and superior to most other psychedelic albums this side of the Beatles' best and Pink Floyd's early work.' - All Music Guide

VARIOUS ARTISTS-Intended Play 2012 LP (Matador / True Panther Sounds-$1.98)
"Wait a minute, what?! Does that really say a buck-ninety-eight?!" Yup, it do. 11 tracks from Matador's stable of swell recent and forthcoming releases by THE YOUNG, KURT VILE, GIRLS, CEREMONY, TANLINES, LEE RANALDO, FUCKED UP, ESBEN AND THE WITCH, and PERFUME GENIUS -- and even two exclusive tracks by COLD CAVE and STEPHEN MALKMUS & THE JICKS. Oh, and mp3 download is included too. Sheesh!

** LES DISQUES COMPACT **

AMOR DE DIAS-Street of the Love of Days CD (Merge-$13.99)
Amor de Días (Spanish for "love of days") is the supergroup formed by Alasdair MacLean of THE CLIENTELE and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of PIPAS. Over the course of three years, they quietly put together their debut record during evenings and weekends as they called in local friends (Louis Philippe) and visiting musicians (Damon and Naomi, Gary Olson) for sessions, building up the songs' multifaceted arrangements and vocal harmonies with harps, bouzoukis, strings, recorders, and brass over the core of dual Spanish guitars and the dream imagery of their bilingual lyrics. The result is a focused, cohesive jewel of chamber pop that reflects a little of Gal Costa and Caetano Veloso's elegant brand of bossa nova, a bit of Erik Satie's haunting night music, and a large dose of spooky psychedelic folk. But the beautiful harmony that sings throughout the record makes it all their own. At times spare and empty, at times rich with instrumental texture, and at times jazz-tinged and hypnotic, S
treet of the Love of Days rivals anything either Alasdair or Lupe has recorded before.

THE BIG PINK-Future This CD (4AD-$11.99)
Running in at ten tracks in 45 minutes, Future This commands your attention throughout. Opening with its first single, "Stay Gold", a track written about doing what makes you happy, so immediate you could be forgiven for thinking they've not been away. From there, the album is paced perfectly, with future live anthems ("Rubbernecking", "1313", "Jump Music"), counterbalanced with a set of songs that show a more subtle side ("Hit The Ground (Superman)", "Give It Up" and title track "Future This").

HOWLER-America Give Up CD (Rough Trade-$8.99)
Howler is the brainchild of 19-year-old frontman Jordan Gatesmith. Last winter, Gatesmith had been playing guitar for the Minneapolis band, Total Babe. But the overwhelming desire to create his own songs, in his own band, prompted him to hole up with his laptop and a guitar and within weeks he had written the tracks that became the genesis for the band's debut EP This One's Different. Almost as quickly he found the people to play them with. Joining Jordan in Howler are Ian Nygaard (guitar), France Camp (bass), Max Petrek (keyboards) and Brent Mayes (drums).

MAGNETIC FIELDS-Realism CD (Nonesuch-$15.99)
Magnetic Fields' third Nonesuch disc, Realism, is the flipside to the industrial pop of Distortion, the quartet's brilliant 2008 homage to, of all things, the clangorous sound of the Jesus and Mary Chain. While Distortion was recorded quickly and noisily in the stairwells and rooms of the New York City apartment building to which singer-songwriter-bandleader Stephen Merritt was about to bid adieu for California, Realism was cut in the distortion-free environs of a Los Angeles studio, and its sound is as pristine as a plein-air painting. There are no drum kits to be heard, and the fascinatingly varied instrumentation - guitars, accordions, violins, cellos, tablas, banjos, tuba, even a smattering of mellifluous falling leaves - did not need to be plugged in. And, as with Distortion, the album credits emphasize: No Synths.
With tongue only slightly in cheek, Merritt has taken to declaring Realism his "folk" album. To get the point across, there is an upbeat, sing-along number early in the set called "We Are Having a Hootenany." Merritt's inspirations, however, were the orchestrated, mostly British folk of the late sixties/early seventies--which owe as much to sixties psychedelia as to traditional music--and the work of Judy Collins, who stretched the boundaries of "folk" with the chamber-pop arrangements of such albums as In My Life and Wildflowers.
Like Collins, Merritt favors variety and theatricality. She skipped from Jacques Brel to the Beatles; he goes from the trippy, toy-box melodies of "The Dolls' Tea Party" and "Painted Flower" to the foot-stomping rhythms of "The Dada Polka" (for which one only has to get up and "do something"). There's even a deceptively festive holiday number, "Everything Is One Big Christmas Tree," featuring a lusty chorus sung in German -- Kurt Weill in a holiday mood. In content, Merritt's songs veer between longing and loneliness, desire and dismissal, romance and revenge. Reality is as distorted as ever, and the characters who populate his songs are never just plain folk. As Jon Pareles of the New York Times put it in a review of Magnetic Fields' 2008 Town Hall concert, Merritt's songs are "elegantly phrased, understatedly sardonic tales of disillusionment. The loftier the dreams, the greater the letdown, an insight he plays for both chuckles and heartache."
Along with his long-time band-mates Sam Davol, Claudia Gonson and John Woo, Merritt is joined again by vocalist Shirley Simms, (whose plaintive tone on Distortion lent poignancy to the murderous fantasy of "California Girls" and the erotic musings in "The Nun's Litany") and accordionist Daniel Handler (a/k/a novelist Lemony Snicket, with whom Merritt created the Gothic Archies' faux children's disc, The Tragic Treasury). Also on board: horn player Johnny Blood and violinist Ida Pearle, familiar to fans of Magnetic Fields' earlier, independently released work. The quartet, along with Simms, are planning a small-theatre tour of the states to coincide with the release of Realism.

STEPHIN MERRITT-Obscurities CD (Merge-$13.99)
Obscurities is a collection of hard-to-find recordings from Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields) dating back to his time on Merge (1994-1999) and prior. The 14 tracks on Obscurities - including five previously unreleased songs – were recorded prior to the release of The Magnetic Fields' seminal album, 69 Love Songs, the collection which established Merritt as one of this generation's most talented songwriters. Three of the unreleased tracks hail from The Song from Venus, the unfinished science fiction musical written by Merritt and Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket. Also included are four songs culled from various 7-inch singles by The Magnetic Fields; two from The 6ths, Merritt's guest vocalist-laden side project; one from an audio book; one from the Oh, Merge compilation; and one track from a rare K Records cassette-only release. Among the tracks on Obscurities is The Song from Venus' "Forever and a Day," a solo-acoustic ukulele-based love song. Also included is "The Sun
and the Sea and the Sky," a previously unreleased 69 Love Songs outtake.

PANDA BEAR-Tomboy CD (Paw Tracks-$12.99)
Both as a member of Animal Collective and as the solo artist Panda Bear, Noah Lennox spent the aughts helping redefine the aesthetics and methodology of experimental and independent music. With work ranging from splayed but lyrical noise, florid acoustic arrangements, and guitar-centric psychedelia, he and his bandmates have covered a vast musical territory that blurs the line between pop and experimentalism. But while Panda Bear and Animal Collective have garnered acclaim with each successive sonic venture, their music really started to take hold when they began working with electronics. In 2007, Lennox released the milestone Person Pitch, a mélange of loopy samples, ethereal textures, and dubby echoes all bound together by his soulful tenor. Hailed by many as an instant classic, the album's influence was almost immediately recognizable. He continued work with Animal Collective, releasing another landmark album Merriweather Post Pavilion in 2009. While the interval since Per
son Pitch has seen plenty of work from the Animal Collective camp, Panda Bear activity has been rare. He has toured sparingly, done intermittent remix work, and appeared on a few peers' releases while rumors circulated about his next full-length, Tomboy. The second half of 2010 saw the record's first offerings: a string of 7"s containing tracks from the album, each released on a different label. The singles have revealed Person Pitch's palette, while helping Lennox gauge his progress and focus on individual songs. Recorded at his studio in Lisbon, Person Pitch sees Lennox stepping away from the sample-based parameters of his previous record and incorporating more guitar and synthesizer. Still prevalent, though, is the interest in texture that made Person Pitch such a dense record; crashing waves and cheering crowds bounce against the gurgling arpeggios and give the tracks an immense sense of space. Soaked in reverb and punctuated with inflections of delay, the album's drums reveal a dub influence which gives them a visceral punch that lingers after each hit. Lennox's lofty, self-harmonizing vocals smooth out the songs, and Sonic Boom's mixing gives the work a large dynamic range. With Person Pitch, Lennox has created a more plaintive atmosphere, but in accordance with the conflicting image of its title, the highs of the album balance out its lows. The record, massive in its span of emotion, genre, and sound, is the welcome return of one of the most prolific and consistent audio pioneers in recent memory.

REAL ESTATE-Days CD (Domino-$12.99)
New Jersey's Real Estate release their new album, entitled Days on Domino. Recorded with Kevin McMahon in Upstate New York through the late winter/spring of 2011, Days is a gorgeous suite of timelessly melodic, achingly melancholy pop songs and a delightfully confident follow-up to 2009's exceptionally well-received eponymous debut. Comprised of nine new recordings and a revisit of last year's enduringly wonderful "Out Of Tune" standalone single, that appeared as a now outof- print 7" on True Panther, Days is the next step in the career of a uniquely close songwriting collective that feel more important with their every release.

ULRICH SCHNAUSS-Stars CD (Domino-$6.99)
Ulrich Schnauss returns after last year's acclaimed third album, Goodbye, with this Stars EP, highlighting the standout track with a new edit, remixes, and a new version of "Look At The Sky". The MAPS remix takes "Stars" to a new level of hyperactive electronic dream pop, while the Mahogany remix is a dense and spacey turn on the track with layers of added textures.

SURFER BLOOD-Tarot Classics EP CD (Kanine-$5.99)
Surfer Blood are back after a hectic year of nonstop touring with Interpol, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, The Drums, and The Pixies. While on tour they managed to squeeze a bit of studio time in to give us four new songs that are destined to become huge pop classics. Fans have already been singing along to "I'm Not Ready" and will be super excited to hear the three other new songs on record; "Reprise", "Drinking Problem", and "Miranda". Any Weezer fan will put these songs on repeat for years to come. Yes they are that catchy. The CD includes the four new tracks plus two remixes; the first from Connor (The Drums) and Peggy (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart) and the second by Ryan (Speculator).

VOIVOD-Warriors of Ice CD (Sonic Unyon-$12.99)
The past few years have seen Canadian metal legends Voivod respectfully get their due. After a successful run in 2003 and 2004, the band went on indefinite hiatus. Along the way, offers started coming in for the band to reform and play live shows again. It was something they were unsure of at first, originally agreeing only to do two festival shows in 2008, first in Quebec as part of HEAVY MTL and then later that summer in Calgary's Monsters of Rock Fest. In 2009, Voivod embarked on their largest European tour in more than a decade. The group played at ever major summer festival in Europe, including Germany's Wacken Open Air and Norway's Hole In The Sky, and were invited out by Phil Anselmo as special guests of Down for their Canadian national tour. The band was back and touring in a big way, with new guitarist Dan 'Chewy' Mongrain (Martyr, Gorguts) filling in for the deceased Piggy and making the other original members of the band excited to be playing these classic Voivod s
ongs once again. Late in 2009, Voivod released the live Tatsumaki DVD, filmed the previous fall when the band toured Japan for the first time ever. In order to celebrate its release, the band did a sold out hometown show at Montreal, Quebec's Club Soda. It was their first headlining show in the city of Montreal in more than ten years and it was celebrated in grand style. The show was recorded for posterity and is now being released as the fifteen-track Warriors Of Ice, the first official Voivod live album to feature original band members Denis 'Snake' Belanger on vocals and bassist Jean-Yves 'Blacky' Theriault. Warriors Of Ice highlights the classic period of the original Voidvod line-up and also offers a few new songs too. Containing songs that span from 1984's War And Pain right up to 1991's Angel Rat, two songs from the 2009 album Infini are also included mid set too. The album has all of the band's signature songs, from early classics "Voivod" and "Nuclear War" to "Tribal Convictions" and "Astronomy Domine". Warriors Of Ice is an absolute must for diehard fans of the band and a great starting point for the uninitiated too.

WILD FLAG-s/t CD (Merge-$13.99)
Wild Flag is a Portland, Oregon- and Washington, DC-based quartet consisting of Carrie Brownstein, Rebecca Cole, Mary Timony, and Janet Weiss. The members of Wild Flag have played in numerous and notable bands including Sleater-Kinney, Helium, Quasi, The Minders, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, and others. In April of 2011, they went to Sacramento, California, where they recorded their self-titled album with engineer Chris Woodhouse at the Hangar. All tracks were recorded live except for the vocals.
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE-Fall be Kind EP 12" (Domino-$10.99)
To close out an incredible 2009 for Animal Collective that saw the release of their most critically and commercially successful album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, comes the Fall Be Kind EP. The EP features 5 brand new studio tracks that are every bit as lush and beautiful as those found on Merriweather. The year of Animal Collective continues.

ARCHERS OF LOAF-Icky Mettle LP (Merge-$17.99)
Ltd ed blue vinyl! Singer/guitarist Eric Bachmann, guitarist Eric Johnson, bassist Matt Gentling, and drummer Mark Price formed Archers of Loaf in Chapel Hill, NC in 1991. Icky Mettle was the first of four studio albums for the band that seemed to personify what SPIN Magazine deemed "a tremendously optimistic time in underground music, that 15-minute period in the early 1990s when it looked like indie rock really might take over the world." Re-mastered by Bob Weston and featuring new liner notes by Robert Christgau, Icky Mettle will come with bonus material including the entire Archers of Loaf vs. The Greatest of All Time EP as well as singles and b-sides from the Icky Mettle era.

BRIGHT EYES-The People's Key LP (Saddle Creek-$16.99)
The People's Key - Bright Eyes' seventh studio album - is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2007's acclaimed Cassadaga. Since 2006 the once revolving cast of Bright Eyes players has settled around permanent members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott, with additional musicians joining them in the studio and on tour. Fully realized and bursting with charisma, The People's Key is an assured and accomplished album, artfully arranged and filled with the engaging and mesmeric songwriting for which Oberst is renowned.

GANGLIANS-Still Living 2xLP (Lefse-$11.99)
Sacramento's Ganglians return after a relatively quiet two years since their dual album dropping in 2009. The aptly titled Still Living hits the streets August 23rd stateside via Lefse, and August 29th. Ringing in at just under an hour, the double LP stays true to their psychedelic roots established on their self-title debut and immediate follow-up Monster Head Room (both via Woodsist), they step it up a notch both stylistically and sonically by enlisting the help of producer Robby Moncrieff (who also played a crucial role in the shaping of The Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca).

MAGNETIC FIELDS-Holiday 180g LP (Merge-$17.99)
Stephin Merritt has claimed that each of the first four Magnetic Fields albums has a specific and unique musical style. It is telling that Holiday shares its name with Madonna's first major hit single, because the musical style on display here is early-'80s-style synth-dance-pop. Of course, in 1994, at the pinnacle of the post-grunge "alternative" era, few musics could have been more resolutely unfashionable. There's no doubt that the ever-contrary Merritt had this in mind all along. In keeping with the escapist title and lighthearted music, Merritt's lyrics only occasionally-and then only lightly-touch upon his usual world-weary cynicism, as on the mournful "Deep Sea Diving Suit." Merritt pursues a more romantic path for most Holiday, crooning the swooning "Take Ecstasy With Me" and "Strange Powers" with an uncharacteristic lightness of spirit. Chances are that it is all deeply ironic and bitter, but at least on the surface, Holiday is sheer delight.
See CD description above!

MOUNTAIN GOATS-All Eternals Deck 180g LP (Merge-$19.99)
"The songs cluster around themes of hidden things and the dread that hidden things inspire," says singer/songwriter John Darnielle, "but also the excitement, the attraction, the magnetic draw that scary unknown hidden things exert." The title refers to an apocryphal tarot deck. The band approached recording sessions for All Eternals Deck as commando raids on multiple studios with several producers. "We wanted to see how disparate seasons and moods and locations and producers would play out in the songs," explains Darnielle.

PANDA BEAR-Tomboy LP (Paw Tracks-$14.99)
See CD description above!

PEACHES-The Teaches of Peaches LP (XL-$12.99)
Long overdue pressing on vinyl! Eagerly anticipated full-length (pun intended) debut from the vulgar Canadian temptress signed to Berlin's Kitty-Yo label, in collaboration with the equally lewd Chilly Gonzales. "The Teaches Of Peaches" has been described as sounding like a cross between Penthouse Forum and Charles Manson, in addition to winning raves in publications from the UK's Wire to Rolling Stone ("surreally funny, nasty and funky...Trent Reznor, Courtney Love and Foxy Brown should all be very, very afraid"). 11 sexy tracks like "Cum Undun," "Diddle My Skittle," and "Lovertits."

RIDE-Nowhere 180g LP (Rhino-$16.99)
Oxfordshire quartet Ride quickly rose to prominence in 1989, driven by the chart success of its first three EPs, the intensity of its live shows, and a hypnotic and moody sound that presaged alt-rock's ascendance. In October 1990, the band released its first full album Nowhere, a tour de force of intertwining guitars, intimate but otherworldly vocals, and open-ended lyrics. Two decades later, the album still resonates and remains one of the era's high-water marks.

RZA-Afro Samurai Resurrection: The Soundtrack 2xLP (Wu Music-$13.99)
The first release on the newly formed Wu Music Group label, run by The RZA and Mitchell Divine Diggs, Afro Samurai Resurrection is the soundtrack to the second season of Spike TV's critically-lauded animated television show and DVD featuring the voice of Samuel L Jackson. The score, produced entirely by the Wu Tang Clan's The RZA, features some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Ghostface Killah, The RZA/Bobby Digital, Kool G Rap, Rah Digga, Inspectah Deck, Killah Priest, and special guest vocals by Sly Stone!

SUPERCHUNK-Foolish 180g LP (Merge-$17.99)
180gm vinyl & digital download coupon. Being released in a series of Superchunk re-issues, Foolish has been remastered by Jason Ward after the original release in 1994. The fourth album from the band, it includes the singles "The First Part" and "Driveway to Driveway". The re-issue includes an essay by Superchunk's Jon Wurster and previously unavailable downloadable bonus tracks. Allmusic.com calls Foolish "a dark masterpiece that contrasts the band's signature high-energy power punk attack…with far more somber, orchestrated approach."

Hey Y'all,

A small-ish update for the week to indulge in, but some exciting new jams coming next week, like the new album from THE BIG PINK and HOWLER, plus a ridiculously low-priced LP sampler from Matador (like, less than 2 bucks). Some other random stuff too on its way. Meanwhile, dig in. Some sweet rarities that are back in print / back in stock too (Magnolia Electric Co, Microphones, Meg Baird, etc.)

Happy New Year!
Dan
** RECOMMENDED!! **

FLEETING JOYS-Despondent Transponder LP (Fat People are Harder to Kidnap / Only Forever-$19.99)
NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!! Limited Norwegian-vinyl import. For fans of: Serena Maneesh, Amusement Parks on Fire, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, Autolux, M83, Slowdive, Stereolab, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Medicine, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, The Cure, Spacemen 3, Ride, The Jesus And Mary Chain, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, shoegazer, dreampop, etc etc.
Fleeting Joys transcends the current sea of musical mediocrity by offering their iridescent waves of glittering sound that swirl effortlessly with gorgeous, intimate melody. This is the aural landscape of mind bending ecstasy and shattering heartbreak. This is magic-soulful.
The center of this phenomenon is John and Rorika who met because of a mutual love of music. Their collaboration evolved into a whole that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Flavors of My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, The Cocteau Twins and Sonic Youth are there, but don't fully explain this shimmering anomaly.
Their debut album despondent transponder was written, performed, recorded and mixed by this DIY duo from Sacramento, California called Fleeting Joys. Brilliant Californian drummer Matt McCord lends his skills to the project. After hearing despondent transponder, legendary Swervedriver drummer, Jez, has pegged the duo for collaboration on their next release.
While appreciating the comparisons to My Bloody Valentine, it has never been the goal of Fleeting Joys to imitate what they admire. "It is merely a starting point to expand from, experiment with, and go from here. We simply love the experience of being drenched in crashing waves of beautifully distorted chords!" It's from this love that the song-crafting of despondent transponder answers the pop vs. noise riddle with catchy, at times - even happy - melodies and crashing instrumentals that rip through like a cyclone tearing up a trailerpark.

A SHORELINE DREAM-Losing Them All to this Time CD (Latenight Weeknight-$11.99)
BACK IN STOCK!! A Shoreline Dream has been best described as creating "melodipsych night music" by combining lush sampled textures, waves of crashing guitars and a wall of vocals layered like a synth, similar in vein to bands such as Cocteau Twins, Porcupine Tree and Sigur Rós. Originating & recording in Denver, Colorado, through the years they have joined forces with German Mastermind Ulrich Schnauss and Mark Kramer (Low / Joy Zipper / Galaxie 500) on numerous releases, including their sophomore LP "Recollections of Memory", the "neverChanger" EP, and their 2011 single titled "London", which was written while singer Ryan Policky was on a visit to Ulrich's studio...
After six years of self promotion through their own home brewed label "latenight weeknight records" the band found themselves branching in directions of experimental sound and recording techniques, utilizing their home studio to it's full potential. Every release to date has been fully in their control, with each track given as much love as the last, and every room in the home used in one way or another during the recording process. 2010 brought on multiple festival dates, including a featured slot at SXSW and Midpoint Music Festival. Later, in the fall, A Shoreline Dream opened for the legends of shoegaze, Chapterhouse, after coordinating the date with the band in London. This was Chapterhouse's last show of their reunion tour while out in San Francisco, and quite possibly their last show ever.
After finalizing and releasing their sonic version of the Fleetwood Mac classic "The Chain", a single released digitally in early 2011, a shoreline dream has recently completed their third LP titled "losing them all to this time", which has been two years in the making. The album tells the story of how easy it is for us all to lose track of time, and the realization that every good relationship and lifespan... eventually comes to an end.

** LES DISQUES COMPACT **

GOLDMUND-All Will Prosper CD (Western Vinyl-$11.99)
All Will Prosper, Keith Kenniff's latest album under the Goldmund moniker, is a collection of 14 traditional Civil War-era folk songs and one contemporary track "Asoken Farewell." Kenniff has always been a student of Civil War history and culture. From the Ken Burns documentary series on PBS to Bill Carothers' solo piano album The Blues and The Greys, he has studied and enjoyed the music that tied friends and families together in a time when the nation was being torn apart. Recorded over a period of 5 years in various houses in Massachusetts, Oregon, and North Carolina, Kenniff's arrangements feel fresh and intimate, while retaining the wistful charms and timeless appeal of the originals. In part the album's intimacy is created by his recording technique. With the top of the piano left completely open, microphones were placed close enough to capture the mechanical movement of the keys being pressed and the pedals squeaking. Similarly the acoustic guitar is close-mic'd, tracin
g the sounds of his fingers scraping and plucking the metal strings. The result creates a rich, almost hyper-real environment, where the tiniest details are magnified and brought to the surface.

KORALLREVEN-An Album By Korallreven CD (Acephale-$10.99)
Now in on CD! After their introduction to the world through the singles The Truest Faith and Honey Mine the partnership of Marcus Joons and Daniel Tjader (also of The Radio Dept) presents its debut album, An Album By Korallreven. The project was conceived after Joons returned from an extended trip to Samoa where he found inspiration in the local choirs. Mesmerized by the South Pacific and the exhilaration of travel, he shared his newfound passion with Tjader and a partnership was born. The result is a journey through influences as far flung as Southern Rap, Dreampop, Reggae, and Minimal Techno, among many others. The glittering production focuses on melodic evolution rather than structure; lush, dubbed-out instrumentals (Loved-Up) perfectly complement trance-pop vocal cuts (Keep Your Eyes Shut & Comin' Closer). Joining the duo are a host of collaborators including Victoria Bergsman and Julianna Barwick. Bergsman, who contributed her dulcet vocals to Honey Mine, returns with t
he swirling meditation of Pago Pago and the anthemic As Young As Yesterday. With Samoan choirs being a major influence on the record, who would be better to enlist than Julianna Barwick? Here, her loop-based vocal soundscape on Sa Sa Samoa builds from a choir of one to an ecstatic eruption.

CRYSTAL STILTS-Radiant Door 12" (Sacred Bones-$11.99)
Sacred Bones is elated to present a new EP from a NY band that has been very near and dear to our hearts for many years now-- Crystal Stilts. Recorded in early 2011 by Gary Olson, with the band's guitarist JB Townsend producing, Radiant Door unveils some of the Stilts' most dynamic recordings to date, and features the beguiling blend of romanticism and mystery that one expects from singer and lyricist Brad Hargett. This has been a remarkable year for the band, including the release of their sophomore full-length, In Love With Oblivion, to rave reviews, and almost continual touring since. Fall plans consist mostly of staying close to home and working on new material, with some additional US and European touring scheduled for November. Opening track "Dark Eyes" may be their strongest song to date, unshackling them from their fuzzy reputation, which even at its heaviest could never obscure one from this bands dexterous song-craft.

FUCKED UP / SERENA-MANEESH - Here Lies Are / Opium Priest Split 12" (Splendour-$10.99)
An unlikely VINYL split it might seem, to some ears at least, but as far as we're concerned, tough to go wrong with these 2 bands! Fucked Up give us a short blast of totally epic progressive punk rock, the way only they can do it. If only all punk rock was this weird, cool, & good. Norwegian drug/drone/space rock combo Serena-Maneesh counter with another jam of their twisted druggy psychedelic weirdness, equal parts droned out space rock, indie jangle, brooding dark drones, & totally twisted avant experimentalism.

GOLDMUND-All Will Prosper LP (Western Vinyl-$13.99)
See CD description above!

FRED MCDOWELL-Alan Lomax Recortdings LP (Mississippi-$13.99)
His first recordings helmed by the legendary Alan Lomax in '59. Recorded by Alan Lomax in 1959.Ê12 songs that highlight the depth of his repetoire - from droning & hypnotic versions of songs that later became blues standards such as "Shake Em On Down" & "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl"Ê to his deeply felt renditions of spirituals like "Keep Your Lamp Trimmed & Burning" . Accompanied at times by some amazing hair comb playing & beautiful backup vocals. Liner notes by Nathan Salsburg.

MT. EGYPT-III LP (Secret Seven-$13.99)
Recommended!! Repress, Limited to 150 hand-numbered copies. After releasing two albums, two 7"s and touring with artists such as The Flaming Lips, Band of Horses, Willie Nelson, and Cat Power, songwriter Travis Graves (aka Mt. Egypt) went into the studio to record his third album. These are the first Mt. Egypt recordings to surface in a long while and the debut release from the fledgling San Francisco vinyl only label, Secret Seven. Sparingly titled III Mt. Egypt's third album is delicately hewn from his life experiences and obsessions. Emphasis here lies on his love of nature, family, friends, and love itself. Simple, sparse, and insightful, Graves' beautiful yet fragile voice evokes a similar mood to that of Neil Young and Alex Chilton. Recommended for listeners of Jason Molina, Will Oldham and Cass McCombs.

SPACEMEN 3-Sound of Confusion LP (Fire-$19.99)
Originally released on Glass in 1986, this is the debut album from the Spacemen 3 led by Sonic Boom (SPECTRUM) & Jason Pierce (SPIRITUALIZED). Featuring covers of 13th Floor Elevators, The Stooges, & Juicy Lucy amongst some originals, this is the band's 1st foray into the deep, stoned, trance-inducing, psychedelic sound they would master on later albums

TALLEST MAN ON EARTH-Shallow Grave LP (Gravitation-$12.99)
The Tallest Man on Earth released one of 2008's most powerful records, one that Pitchfork praised, calling Kristian Matsson "a natural-born folksinger, earnest, clever, and comforting." Shallow Grave could not have been more simple, just Matsson's commanding vocals with an acoustic guitar or banjo, recorded at his home in Dalarna, Sweden. Although the album was released on the Swedish label Gravitation without the help of widespread distribution, the story of The Tallest Man on Earth spread far and wide through word of mouth. In April 2010 The Tallest Man on Earth released the critically acclaimed album The Wild Hunt and has played dozens of sold-out shows on both sides of the Atlantic. Now, Gravitation is pleased to make Shallow Grave widely available on vinyl for the first time.

A WINGED VICTORY FOR THE SULLEN-s/t LP (Kranky-$12.99)
"A Winged Victory For the Sullen" is the first installment of the new collaboration between STARS OF THE LID member Adam Wiltzie & composer Dustin O'Halloran. Their secret to harvesting new melodic structures from the thin air of existence was for the duo to push themselves to live dangerously, realizing that clear thinking at the wrong moment could stifle the compositions. The final result is seven landscapes of harmonic replicating ingemination. Notable guest musicians include Icelandic cellist Hildur Gudnadottir, & violinist Peter Broderick. This is not a side project. This is the future of the late night record you have always dreamed of.

VARIOUS ARTISTS-Brass Pins & Match Heads LP (Mississippi-$14.99)
Compilation of deep 78's from all over the world - India, Iran, Anatolia, Portugal, Switzerland, Greece, Macedonia, Spain, America & more. Compiled by Ian Nagoski as sort of a sequel to the "String of Pearls" compilation put out a couple years back. Beautiful austere performances by master instrumentalists & vocalists. Comes w/ four pages of liner notes & tip on old school cover.

** RARITIES **

Happy Holidays, Everybody!

Final Tonevendor update of 2011, but what a doozy it is! So much good stuff here to wrap up a tough year. It's been rough for music sales, but I do want to thank all of those who do still buy music in some form or another.

Here's looking to a bright and shiny 2012!

Wishing you and yours good tidings, good cheer, and all the best,

** LES DISQUES COMPACT **

AEROSOL-Airborne CD (n5md-$12.99)
Airborne is the 2nd album from Rasmus Rasmussen's Aerosol project. Starting out as a member of the post-rock band Limp (Morr Music) with band mates Jonas Munk (manual), Jakob Skøtt (syntaks) and Jess Kahr, Rasmussen helped incubate a certain sound that the of the four have nurtured in each of their solo endeavors. Rasmussen's take on the sun drenched post-shoegaze of the "post-limp collective" has a more defined sense of psychedelia and openness than his mates. This heightened sense of consciousness-expansion is all without ever being contrived, heavy handed or excessive. There is a self-awareness to Airborne that can be heard in spades on the aptly titled swirly slow-burn of "Psychedelic Coffee Buzz". A song written about a tour around Morocco, were we are very sure that sleep deprivation, sunrises and of course coffee play key roles in its expanses. Tracks like the bookend pieces of "Midnight Ride Down the Mental Freeway" and "Softly Slipping" are blissed-out electronic sho
egaze featuring sure-stepped percussion, chiming guitars, synth-lines seemingly made of aether and steadfast acoustic guitar lines. This is personal listening at its best. Every song is a landscape and every one of those hazy landscapes has a story. You'll just need to get Airborne for the anecdote.

MATT BARTRAM-The Dreaming Invisible CD (Drifting Falling-$11.99)
For over a decade with his band Air Formation, Matt Bartram has been one of the most prolific, consistent and respected songwriters of the shoegaze/dreampop scene. Following the demise of Air Formation in the spring of 2011, Matt Bartram formed You Walk Through Walls with fellow Air Formation alumni James Harrison (together with Harry Irving). Matt has collaborated with Rachel Goldstar as The Static Silence (Distant Noise) and has remixed tracks for Kontakte (Drifting Falling); purveyors of skyscraping instrumental cinematic rock, and Monster Movie; Christian Saville of Slowdive’s current project. Christian also played on the track “Twelve String Loop” on Bartram’s most recent solo outing “Left to Memory”. Matt has spent the last several years recording experimental excursions at home on his eight track. These recordings generally spawn from improvisations based around simple rhythms and drone. His well received solo debut “Arundel”, was released in March 2008 and the follow
up “Left to Memory” followed in 2009, both on Drifting Falling. Matt aims to create hypnotic, mesmerizing and uplifting tracks which reflect a more ambient feel. This ambiance really comes across on Bartram’s newest release “The Dreaming Invisible......." which features some of Bartram’s most ambient work to date. It’s a jaw-dropping example of his mastery of texture, melody and subtly. Exquisitely layered and masterfully crafted. Recommended for fans of Air Formation, Flying Saucer Attack, Roy Montgomery, and Windy & Carl.

ULRICH SCHNAUSS-Missing Deadlines: Selected Remixes CD (Rocket Girl-$16.99)
Although strictly speaking a remix album, Missing Deadlines sees Schnauss adopt the role of a master orchestrator or alchemist, rearranging and restructuring the songs of his contemporaries, as opposed to simply adorning each with throwaway beats-by-numbers. The record is a testament to Schnauss’s unique aural vision, showcasing his undeniable grasp of heart-warming, heart-wrenching melody. Schnauss’s telltale signiture sounds are present in each track - whether it be the ever-oscillating synth patterns, the rich, reverb-laden voices, or the euphoric beats – whilst simultaneously remaining true to the spirit of the originals.
”Essentially what makes me really happy about this album is the fact that it's a selection of the - in my opinion - best mixes from a musical point of view, rather than a compilation of the commercially most succesful ones, or the tracks that have the biggest names associated with them. In all cases, the original songs are already great in their own right - which made it really inspiring to work with them.” – Ulrich Schnauss
SIMON SCOTT-Bunny CD (Miasmah-$15.99)
This is UK multi-instrumentalist Simon Scott's second album for Miasmah. He might still be best known for his tenure as the backbone of influential shoegazers Slowdive, but after his debut solo effort Navigare in 2009, he showed that there was far more to his oeuvre. With an ease and fluidity that eschews the usual trappings of the genre, he injected Slowdive's freeflowing bliss into the kind of blackened soundscapes the Miasmah label has made its calling card and gave the sound a rich, multi-layered quality that was effortlessly enticing. Bunny sees him take on a plethora of themes and ideas, distilling them into a coherent, well-defined narrative. The overall premise of the record is apparent from the very beginning, and might surprise some with its inspired take on the blackened jazz and smokey Americana heard in Paris, Texas or Mulholland Dr.. It would do Scott a disservice to simply label the music as Lynchian however; his success is to treat the layers of instrumentatio
n (drums, guitars, cello, synthesizers) with a masterful fluidity, allowing the influences to melt into a delicate and delectable whole. Occasionally Scott acknowledges his shoegazing past, nudging the sound towards the blurred haze of his former band, but even these moments are cavernous enough for us to imagine them oozing from a Midwestern jukebox in an abandoned suburban diner. Bunny is an ambitious and daring journey for an artist who refuses to stay still; and it might just be the best road trip you've never taken.
BORIS-New Album LP (Sargent House-$26.99)
Gatefold 2LP version with insert. "Boris has long been celebrated for their rare ability to reinterpret a multitude of esoteric musical genres into a sound uniquely their own. New Album finds the intrepid Japanese trio etching their own post-noise, extreme pop niche with their most accessible and melodic effort to date. New Album is the culmination of the band's ongoing experimentation that catapults its ferocious sound headlong into pop territory."

CLAMS CASINO-Instrumentals 2xLP (Type Records-$29.99)
Clams Casino is the memorable pseudonym of New Jersey resident Mike Volpe, who in the last few months has shot from relative obscurity to production sensation thanks to a handful of blistering tracks. Edging into the limelight after passing tunes to Soulja Boy and Bay Area superstar Lil B, his originality has resonated with more than just rap fans. You see, Clams hasn't confined his songwriting to rap music alone, and listening to his productions you can hear a keen sense of harmony, a pop sensibility and a willingness to let sounds dissolve into an uncharacteristic dream-like haze.
After a genre-bending EP on the esteemed Tri-Angle label, this double LP compiles some of Clams' most crucial and sought after beats. Surprisingly, with the raps stripped away the tracks take on a life of their own, and hearing Clams' intricate productions with the space to breathe feels like a real privilege. The half-heard vocals, twisted, rolling beats and acid-bathed samples are now pushed to the forefront, and you'd struggle to hear how a rapper, no matter how competent would manage to compete with such precise songwriting. Clams' real skill is to combine the delirious club sound of post-2010 rap with something almost unheard in the genre. His sound is totally unique, and as he punctuates tracks with blissful ambience and inspired samples it's hard not to believe this is a producer destined for true greatness. 'Instrumentals' is where it all begins.
FENNESZ-Seven Stars 10" (Touch-$11.99)
Fennesz's first solo release since Black Sea (TO 076CD/LP) is a 4-track 10" vinyl. Using acoustic and electric guitars, bass, synths and computers, Fennesz continues to engage and entrance us in equal measure. Fennesz writes: "Seven Stars was recorded in Vienna in January 2011. I recorded and mixed the album within 3 weeks. 'Liminal' and 'July' were existing pieces which I have reworked. (I wrote an early version of 'Liminal' in a hotel room in Bali in 2010). There is also a version of 'Liminal' that I have been playing live for some time. My friend Steven Hess, with whom I have worked before, happened to be in Vienna at the time of the sessions, so I invited him to join me in the studio. Christoph Amann recorded the drums using a selection of his great microphones, including his amazing new Josephson. I wanted to make a record that has a certain lightness about it and at the same time explore new territory using drums on one track. This might be something I will continue wit
h in the future." Printed inner and outer color sleeve.

FORMA-s/t LP (Spectrum Spools-$19.99)
FORMA (Mark Dwinell, Sophie Lam, & George Bennett) emerged on the NYC minimal synth scene in 2010 with a singular vision of cosmic Krautrock for a new age. On their eponymous debut LP, the Brooklyn-based electronics trio merges the melodic flow and primitive rhythms of their motorik predecessors with the hypnotic drones of minimalism, creating an intricate work both addicting and rewarding with repeat listens. Like many of the LP's 11 tracks, the churning and relentless "FORMA237B" draws its energy from a precarious equilibrium between structural rigidity and free improvisation, a dynamic at the heart of FORMA's universe. With lush, distant soundscapes as interludes between these peaks, FORMA's inaugural full-length is a harmonious and expansive expression of the enduring power of kosmische musik. Mark Dwinell and Sophie Lam: (Roland RS-09, Roland SH-1000, Roland RE-101, Yamaha CS-15, Crumar DS-2, Oberheim SEM, DSI Morpho, Moog LP, Farfisa Compact Combo), George Bennett (Rola
nd TR-707, Alesis HR-16B). Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, March 2011.
GROUP INERANE-Guitars From Agadez Volume 4 7" (Sublime Frequencies-$11.99)
This is Sublime Frequencies' first-ever 7" release to coincide with Group Inerane's first-ever European tour. Three blazing and incendiary tracks recorded in Niger by Hisham Mayet. Extremely limited tour-only edition available for a short time for the discerning public.
Emerging from the political turmoil of the Tuareg rebellion in Niger, Group Inerane's adventurous guitar sounds are well grounded in the tradition of Tamashek guitar music from their region. Originally born in refugee camps, this so-called desert blues spread the Saharan desert and managed to reach international audiences at the turn of the millennium, mainly through Malian outfit Tinariwen.
Though this context helps put Group Inerane’s recordings in a nice historical context with the rest of the Sublime Frequencies catalog, most listeners on the western side of the Atlantic are likely to be turned on by the mesmerizing riffs and minimal rhythmic patterns that climb their way into full-blown psychedelia. With its simple arrangement and crawling groove, "Tehiteyman" is among the band’s most hypnotic tracks, and even though sometimes it may sound like a fully formed song out of the American avant-garde, it's actually more likely to be heard fueling the dance party at the wedding gigs that they play back at home. --Pierre Lestruhaut, International Tapes
TIME HECKER-Dropped Pianos LP (Kranky-$11.99)
Composed of sketch pieces recorded in 2010 for what would become "Ravedeath, 1972", this is a peek behind the curtains into the working process of Tim Hecker. That these pieces stand on their own as compelling soundworks is a testament to the fact that Tim Hecker is at the absolute top of his game at the moment, and has been for years.
INSTITUT FUER FEINMOTORIK-ABEGEGRIFFEN LP (Marriage-$11.99)
Institut fuer Feinmotorik (IFF) is an artists’ group working in different formats and media. Although the main activity is acoustic-art / music. IFF is located in Bad Säckingen, Berlin, Cologne and Karlsruhe (all Germany). The group was founded 1997 for a club-event in Basel (Switzerland) at Brisant kiosk/club. IFF produces different outputs (photography, video, music, drawing, computer-programming, printed matters etc.), organizes artistic-/cultural events, does lectures and workshops and publishes artistic goods such as music records, books etc. IFF got some reputation for their acoustic work with a reductionist set-up called octogrammoticum: 8 turntables, 4 DJ mixers + end-mixer, which is served by the group members. Anything (except records) which somehow fits between turntables and pick-up cartridges (household-rubberbands, paper-stickers, rubbergums, handicraft-tools + various tinker-trivias) may be played. Lately, IFF contributed to Art Exhibitions (e.g. MUDAM, Luxembo
urg), took part in the music-theatre 'Ensemble fuer Staedtebewohner' in Vienna, produced an abstract radioplay for RADIO ARTHUR (Swiss) and another one for RADIO ZERO (Portugal), they also published a book entitled 'Feinmotorik Kompendium' in 2005, and now release this new longplay record entitled ABGEGIFFEN on Marriage Records, Portland OR.
ERKIN KORAY-Mechul: Singles & Rarities LP (Sublime Frequencies-$22.99)
LP gatefold limited edition release. Erkin Koray and Sublime Frequencies are pleased to present this collection of rare tracks and lesser-heard singles. All tracks were recorded and released in Turkey between 1970-1977 and culled from Koray's personal vinyl collection. Includes exclusive photos and remastered audio. What more is there to say about Erkin Koray? An iconic guitar and songwriting genius. A voice of gold. Having founded the country's first-ever rock and roll group in 1957, he is regarded worldwide as the father of Turkish rock. Forging Western sounds with his own inimitable musical mastery, he self-produced singles and LPs throughout the 1960s and 1970s that shook and altered Turkish society. Erkin didn't stop at rock and roll. Over time, he began to find inspiration in folk sounds from Turkey's Anatolian interior, and radio broadcasts received from Egypt and Lebanon. He looked to the East from his West-leaning Istanbul perch, and began incorporating these sounds
into his own work. This amalgamation was as unprecedented and unorthodox in Istanbul at the time as rock and roll itself had been in the 1950s. The resulting hybrid sound ignited what became known as the Arabesque music movement in Turkey -- which continues to this day. While Erkin has recorded and performed tirelessly throughout the years (both as a solo artist, and with the powerful groups he formed), his extensive back catalog only began to be explored by the international community in the 1990s. He is now recognized as one of the foremost global leaders of psychedelic, folk rock, pop and balladry. His music has stood the test of time more than many of his Western contemporaries and influences have managed to, and his prolific work ethic has not ceased. He continues to live and breathe music, performing epic concerts, and continuously plotting new recordings and strategies. His vision and integrity, coupled with his pronounced world views and inherent musical greatness, have made him the unique and magnificent living legend he is today. This collection features tracks not found on the many unauthorized Erkin compilations and LP reissues that have emerged in the West over the years. Ranging from the sublime to the surreal, these tracks offer an essential glimpse into the extensive repertoire of the great Erkin Koray. --Mark Gergis, July, 2011
LITTLE WINGS-Black Grass LP (Marriage-$11.99)
Black Grass is Kyle Field's most honest and revealing work to date. It is the distillation into its very essence of over a decade's worth of stunningly beautiful song-craft on Field's part. This is a haunting, understated, and deeply personal work. The music of Little Wings is woven in the scenery in which it is created - be it the natural kingdom that was San Luis Obispo, or the pervasive, stubborn fog of San Francisco. In the lyrics we hear the natural world, the seasons, and our interactions with them merge into and become one other. Even the title seems both an environmental and an emotional state. In Black Grass we hear fragility and durability, we hear the paradox of personal growth. Driven to look unflinchingly into himself and at the world around him in the fall season, Field has produced work that is as sincere in its moments of aching and decay as it is in its moments of triumph and rebirth.
OMAR SOULEYMAN-Haflat Gharbia: The Western Concerts 2xLP (Sublime Frequencies-$26.99)
Deluxe gatefold 2LP version. Omar Souleyman is a folk-pop singer from rural northeastern Syria. Like many Syrian musicians, he made his name as a singer for wedding parties in the region, with hundreds of cassettes and CDs documenting his performances distributed throughout the country. These, along with several studio albums, earned him legendary status in the Syrian dabke scene throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. After his 2005 breakthrough folk-hit "Khataba," Omar gained wider recognition throughout the Arab world. After collecting his tapes for a decade, Sublime Frequencies released the first compilation of Omar Souleyman tracks to be distributed in the West. The success of Highway To Hassake (SF 031CD, 2007), and the enthusiastic online reaction to the promotional clip for his track "Leh Jani," led to Omar being invited to tour the UK and Europe in the summer of 2009. It would be his first time performing or travelling outside of the Arab world. He and his group, compr
ised of two longtime collaborators -- Rizan Sa'id on keyboards, and electric saz player Ali Shaker -- set off on a six-week Sublime Frequencies tour with label-mates Group Doueh. By the end of 2009, Omar had proven that his unique and charismatic delivery of Syrian electrified folkloric dabke, Iraqi choubi and Arabic shaabi had the ability to appeal to the most diverse of Western audiences. His success has continued, with further tours throughout Europe, America and Australia drawing rave reviews and leaving a trail of fervor across the globe. The rise of Omar's success has transcended the wedding halls and cassette stalls of Syria and slipped into Western popular consciousness. Despite there being no shortage of musical talent in Syria, dabke and otherwise, Omar Souleyman is the first Syrian musical export to have won the hearts of Westerners and Arabs alike on this scale. His trademark checkered khaffya, sunglasses and elegant jalaba are not uncommon male attire in the Arab world, but for years in the West, it is that exact image which has been excessively demonized. Perhaps one of the most striking achievements of Omar's rise has been watching that iconic image transformed from comic book villainy to something positively regal. The recordings on Haflat Gharbia: The Western Concerts, Omar Souleyman's fourth release on Sublime Frequencies, represent an hour of the best moments from the Western tours between 2009 and 2011, captured in striking fidelity and intensity. Fans will recognize familiar songs, as well as previously-unreleased material presented here for the first time, in what is the biggest sounding Omar record yet. Compiled and recorded by Mark Gergis.
TELEVISION PERSONALITIES-A Memory is Better Than Nothing LP (Rocket Girl-$18.99)
Oh please! Where to begin? The run-ins with Dave Gilmour, the Syd Barrett connection, Alan McGee's whole life template based on what Dan was doing? The drugs, the crimes, the prison time...yet surprisingly little of this has been documented in the music.
Seen as the quintessential UK cult band for nigh on three decades...never attracting the masses at shows...but in a day and age where indie by numbers rules...TVP’s have always transcended that.
Blighted with missed opportunities, and horrendous drug / health problems, written off, and never fashionable TVPs are one of rock and rolls last great secrets...But for how long? With a new album, new single, and support slot with MGMT on their 2010 UK Tour may be not that long at all. MGMT have even written a song dedicated to Dan’s colourful existence.
TVPS have always meant something more in other countries than their native UK.
The music has been remixed by many; Swedish New Yorker enigma Mabel recorded a fantastic version of 'All The Young Children on Crack'. MGMT are collaborating with Dan soon and they have a song on their new album 'Song for Dan Treacy'. Dan has been asked over and over to write songs for other bands and is working on tracks for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, The Crystal Stilts and more. TVPs rocked many festivals including Benicassim and All Tomorrows Parties (invited by MBV) , where The Horrors, Sonic Boom, Kramer, J. Mascis and more all waited in TVPs backstage dressing room before and after the show to pay their respects. TVPS have recently played Greece, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France and Italy.
Who else has shared a bill / dressing room etc with TVPs? : Nico, Kurt Cobain, Pink Floyd, MGMT, Genesis P.Orridge, Evan Dando, to name but a few...............
The new album ‘A Memory Is Better than Nothing’ has been made with great love by Dan, TexasBob and Mike Stone with the help of some new and one or two old faces around him., with the help of some new and one or two old faces around him. But the violence inflicted on himself remains, the self doubt…the lack of medical help, the wrong help...the fucked up relationships...the heroin the heroin always the heroin means that this could well be the last LP or who knows may be the start of something?
Right now TVPs are under the comforting wing of music and friend-wise the Brooklyn bands scene, however in Dan's eyes it is becoming more and more a freak show where he feels everyone is waiting for him to fall off the edge.
Three overdoses - two in art galleries (irony) in the past few weeks give Dan the lead… expect eulogies when the inevitable happens as we don't know what the inevitable will be. We may as well swing along for the journey when Dan's revelations about his time working at 16 years of age at Swan Song for Led Zeppelin come to light in the next few months.
This story will continue no doubt, f*** knows what, where, how and who...
And here's Debbie with the weather…..
Current line-up: Dan Treacy, Texasbob Juarez, Mike Stone, Arnau Obiols.
WIM WENDERS-Pina: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 180g LP (Wenders Music-$16.99)
The soundtrack to the film Pina for Pina Bausch by Wim Wenders (to be released in North American theaters in Dec 2011), containing 15 tracks from the successful 3D movie. Most of the music is from the productions of Pina Bausch's dance company, featured in the movie. Songs composed especially for this movie by Berlin musician Thom Hanreich add to this versatile concoction. Wim Wenders' love for music can be perceived in all of his movies -- this time around it is no different. Especially with the sounds from Pina Bausch's dance company which predefined the choice of music: "Music plays a highly important part in all of Pina's pieces. And music was certainly one of the reasons why I felt so well sheltered inside them, so much at home," says Wim Wenders. The soundtrack Pina portrays a cross-section of this musical variety. The compilation presents a range of artists such as Jun Miyake (Japan), Lisa Papineau (France), Hazmat Modine (USA), Owain Phyfe & The New World Renaissance
Band (USA), Germano Rocha (Canada), René Aubry (France), Amon Tobin aka Cujo (Brazil), The English Chamber Orchestra (UK), and Thom Hanreich (Germany). It comprises a mix of different music styles, featuring artists maybe not known to all of the listeners. The soundtrack will be sure to awaken memories of many compelling movie scenes. Wim Wenders emphasizes that the music Pina Bausch chose is one of yearning. The director states: "We shared a similar taste in music. Whether in blues, in fado, or in Latin-American music, but also in popular German music, this yearning, this deep longing is predominant." Many fans have been yearning for the music from Pina. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl with a full-color printed inner sleeve featuring scenes from the film and notes by Wenders.
VARIOUS ARTISTS-Mata La Pena LP (Mississippi-$15.99)
Global music of indeterminate origin, but indisputable beauty from MISSISSIPPI RECORDS - from otherworldly vocals-only tunes, to lovely & lush arrangements - strains of calypso, Thai balladry, rural American yodeling, Hawaiian ukelele tunes, & beyond. Comes in a beautiful paste-on art sleeve, reminiscent of old school Folkways LPs.
VARIOUS ARTISTS-Ishilan-n-Tenere LP (Mississippi-$16.99)
Recommended! One of our personal favorites from 2011. Compilation of recent field recordings made by Chris Kirkley (Sahel Sounds). Comes w/ a 16 page full color booklet ft. descriptive notes & beautiful never before published photos.
This is the second album from James Leyland Kirby's alias The Caretaker, following up 2008's Persistent Repetition Of Phrases (HAFTW 003CD).
Hi all,

Something kind of nice for American Express cardholders: if you haven't already heard, you can register your AmEx card and they will give you a $25 credit if you shop at qualified small businesses this Saturday, 11/26. And yes, Tonevendor is one of those small businesses. That's like $25 in free records! Whadda you waiting for? Get more info here: http://www.facebook.com/SmallBusinessSaturday. In fact, any AmEx orders placed between now and Saturday will be held so that your card is charged on Saturday to get the appropriate credit. You're welcome!

Meanwhile, a small assortment of music to be thankful for below.

Happy Thanksgiving!
** LES RECOMMENDS **

BRITTLE STARS-Occasional Appearance CD (Fastcut-$16.99)
Absolutely beautiful Japanese issue of Brittle Stars material on CD, housed in a heavyweight gatefold package. Limited to 440 copies for sale!
After many years of out-of-print status, Brittle Stars material is finally available once again on CD format. This collection compiles all ten tracks from the 1999 debut album, one remix (the Rumpshaker remix by C.hand4d) from the Garage Sale collection, and a cover of OMD's classic "Souvenir".
For the uninitiated, Brittle Stars took influences from The Sundays, New Order, OMD, My Bloody Valentine, and classic indiepop in general. The resulting mix of sound pretty much reflects that, at least we tend to think so. Fastcut Records' press release throws a few other contemporaries/influences in the mix, including Young Marble Giants, Au Revoir Simone, C86 and Sarah Records. No complaints here.
Previous press release from the debut album on Shelflife Records: "The debut from Florida's Brittle Stars is definitely not one to miss. Any fan of shoegaze will adore this mix of dreamy female vocals floating upon layers of keyboards and guitars. Noisy enough to please Henry's Dress fans and poppy enough for Stereolab fans. Estelle's gorgeous voice is easily comparable to that of Karolina Club 8, Julia Acid House Kings, Jana Majestic 12 and Annemari Field Mice. Exquisite taste is shown in every melody, delicate precision in every riff... no wonder, since the members of Brittle Stars also run Florida's top pop labels, Clairecords and Claire de Leon."

FONDA-Better Days EP 12" (Fonda Music / Minty Fresh-$7.99)
NOW ON LIMITED VINYL WITH BONUS TRACK, 'SOME THINGS AREN'T WORTH KNOWING'! It's been eight years since Fonda's last album, Catching Up To The Future, was released on the Parasol label imprint, Hidden Agenda Records. Since then, the band's principal songwriters, David Klotz and Emily Cook have devoted time to other projects. Emily is a working screenwriter having written such films as "Gnomeo and Juliet" while David is currently the music editor for the television show "Glee".
Their most important project to date, however, has been the birth of their son, Henry. So, there've been some legitimate reasons for the prolonged absence. They actually recorded the bulk of their new EP around Henry's nap schedule. A good day in the studio would be having the ability to finish just one guitar track. Many months later, they had 5 new songs of 1960's styled indie-pop. However, in classic Fonda form, those 5 pop songs have been filtered through the lens of 1990's-era, My Bloody Valentine, creating some fine melodic dreampop.

THE BIG PINK-Stay Gold 12" (4AD-$9.99)
The Big Pink return with ‘Stay Gold’, the first new track to appear from their forthcoming second album, Future This. The track shows the band have lost none of their verve in their time away from the spotlight. Written with references to both an article from the late-60s by Stanley Kubrick in Playboy and Robert Frost's Pulitzer Prize winning poem, 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' (which also featured prominently in the book and subsequent film, The Outsiders), 'Stay Gold' is about finding things that make you happy. In Milo's case, that was graffiti when he was a kid; a subject that runs through the artwork for their forthcoming second album.

PORTISHEAD-Chase the Tear 12" (XL-$8.99)
Portishead's exclusive single from 2009, written for download royalties to go toward Amnesty International, finally sees the light of day in a vinyl edition, backed with a cover of the track by Toronto's Doldrums.

THE STRANGE BOYS-Live Music LP (Rough Trade-$13.99)
Live Music (as in, living the music) is Austin, Texas's The Strange Boys' third album, after The Strange Boys and Girls Club, and Be Brave. Live Music was recorded in April 2011 at the Austin home studio of Spoon drummer Jim Eno, who produced the fourteen track album. The band features brothers Ryan Sambol (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Phillip Sambol (bass), Greg Enlow (guitarist) and Mike La Franchi (drums). The Strange Boys continue to tour and live music wherever they happen to be.
** LES RECOMMENDS **

SIGUR ROS-Inni 2xCD+DVD (XL-$19.99)
SIGUR ROS-Inni Blu-Ray DVD+2xCD (XL-$22.99)
SIGUR ROS-Inni 3xLP+DVD (XL-$25.99)
3 available formats! the 2xCD+DVD comes in a CD-sized package. The Blu-Ray version comes in Blu-Ray (DVD) sized packaging. And of course the LP is in LP sized packaging, but is also limited, on clear vinyl, and with a download card.
Inní is the definitive Sigur Rós live experience, comprised of a double live album and a seventy-five minute concert film, capturing Sigur Rós' last show before their well-documented "indefinite hiatus" at the end of 2008. Recorded and shot over two nights at London's Alexandra Palace, at the close of the world tour around their fifth full length album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust.
The live album Inní – a first for the band – is comprised of the full set from Alexandra Palace, played in order with just one omission, and clocks in at one-and-three-quarter hours. Recorded by Sigur Rós' in-house studio engineer Birgir Jón Birgisson, Inní's live audio recording is far and away the best way of replicating the full-force effect of standing in front of one of the world's most extraordinary bands for an evening.
Inní, Sigur Rós' second live film following 2007's hugely-celebrated tour documentary Heima, was directed by Vincent Morisset (Arcade Fire's Miroir Noir) and captures the band as a core four-piece for the first time since they were joined by string section amiina at the start of this century. The film debuted at this year's Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2011. Inní focuses purely on the band's performance, and stands as a stark counterpoint to Heima's kaleidoscopic richness. Where Heima was lush and colorfully expansive, Inní is spare and near-monochromatic in its tunnel vision. Filmed in a manner that invites both intimacy and claustrophobia, Inní cocoons the viewer in a one-on-one relationship with the band, eschewing the audience for closeness, depicting how it feels for both band and fan to experience Sigur Rós live.
When taken in together, Inní's live album and film give us an incredible account of one of the most celebrated and influential rock bands of recent years, showing where they've come from, where they've been, and like all things Sigur Rós, where it is they will be going next.
ATLAS SOUND-Parallax CD (4AD-$11.99)
Welcome to Parallax, the third long player from Atlas Sound, the ever expansive solo project from Bradford Cox of Deerhunter. Atlas Sound is not a "side-project" but rather a fully fleshed musical landscape chock-full of pop chronicles culled from sci-fi fever dreams and mid century rock. This is perhaps Cox's best work to date, juxtaposing his modern, sometimes avant, songwriting sensibilities against a backdrop of ambient loneliness and a quiet feeling of desperation. The artwork and photos were done by Mick Rock, the legendary photographer best known for his work with David Bowie.

ATLAS SOUND-Parallax / Oh Ricky 7" (4AD-$4.99)
This 7" is just in time for Atlas Sound's new full-length album Parallax. Included on this 7" is the title track "Parallax" and the b-side "Oh Ricky."

KORALLREVEN-An Album By Korallreven LP (Acephale-$16.99)
After their introduction to the world through the singles The Truest Faith and Honey Mine the partnership of Marcus Joons and Daniel Tj?der (also of The Radio Dept) presents its debut album, An Album By Korallreven. The project was conceived after Joons returned from an extended trip to Samoa where he found inspiration in the local choirs. Mesmerized by the South Pacific and the exhilaration of travel, he shared his newfound passion with Tj?der and a partnership was born. Bergsman, who contributed her dulcet vocals to Honey Mine, returns with the swirling me
ditation of Pago Pago and the anthemic As Young As Yesterday. With Samoan choirs being a major influence on the record, who would be better to enlist than Julianna Barwick? Here, her loop-based vocal soundscape on Sa Sa Samoa builds from a choir of one to an ecstatic eruption.

NA HAWA DOUMBIA-La Grande Cantatrice Malienne Volume 3 LP (Awesome Tapes From Africa-$13.99)
Na Hawa Doumbia's La Grande Cantatrice Malienne Vol 3 marks the first release for new label Awesome Tapes From Africa, a blog and DJ project known worldwide for shedding light on obscure and wonderful musical treasures from the African continent. This early recording--made in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in 1982--captures the dualities inherent in Doumbia's music early on: from a stripped-down, raw backdrop arise warm sonics; expressions of feminism and social issues imparted through spare refrains. Doumbia's urgent, distinctive vocals and hypnotic didadi rhythm from her native Bougouni have made her a respected voice in Mali for more than three decades. Today she is best known for her contributions to Wassoulou music. The singer was raised by her grandmother--her mother died shortly after giving birth. But before passing away she predicted Doumbia would be a singer--something surprising, since she didn't come from the jeli (or griot) caste of hereditary singers. Her grandparents res
orted to the magical powers of blacksmiths to fight it, but ultimately the prediction proved correct. Doumbia's music is more powerful than magic.

PSYCHIC ILLS-Hazed Dream LP (Sacred Bones-$13.99)
Sacred Bones Records is proud to present Hazed Dream, the new long-player from fellow New Yorkers, Psychic Ills. Since their formation in 2003 as a home-recording experiment, the Ills have evolved into a live band, in their element playing the extended jam. Musically, it also marks a departure from some of the band's more recent sonic explorations. The raga rumbles and synthesizer space-outs aren't gone all together; the singular blasted musical perspective of the Ills remains.

KURT VILE-So Outta Reach 12" (Matador-$9.99)
Album includes digital download card! This Kurt Vile release includes five incredible unheard songs originally recorded for Smoke Ring for My Halo and a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Downbound Train."
